The History of Tesla and Solar Energy

July 28, 2020 //  by Sophia//  Leave a Comment

To learn about the history of solar energy and the history of Tesla, simply continue reading. Especially if you’re fascinated with Tesla’s success and the increasing popularity of solar energy, in recent years.

The History of Tesla and Solar Energy:

The history of solar energy:

The first people to use a rudimentary form of solar energy were the ancient Romans and Greeks, who figured out that they could use mirrors in order to use the sun’s rays in order to create fire. The ancient Greeks and Romans even used mirrors to automatically light ceremonial torches.

However, solar energy as we know it wasn’t invented until the 1800s. Numerous individuals made significant scientific findings which eventually led to the invention of modern day solar panels. In 1839 a French scientist, Edmond Becquerel conducted a scientific experiment which proved that a cell made of metal electrodes and placed in a conducting solution, produced more power when it was exposed to light.

Then in 1873, Willoughby Smith, discovered that selenium could be used as a photoconductor. A couple of years later in 1876 William Grylls Adams and Richard Evans Day announced that selenium was capable of generating power, when it was exposed to light. However, half a century had passed until American inventor Charles Fritz created the first working selenium power cell. in 1883.

The history of Tesla:

Tesla was founded in 2003 by two American entrepreneurs, Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning. Who decided to launch an innovative, electric car company. Eberhard and Tarpenning chose to name Tesla after the Serbian American inventor Nikola Tesla.

While Eberhard and Tarpenning founded Tesla, the duo launched their electric car business, by attracting investors. The most well known of which is Elon Musk, who originally contributed $30 million dollars to Tesla.

Tesla’s first electric car:

Tesla released its first electric car the Roadster, in 2008. The Roadster’s electric engine was powered by lithium ion cells that Roadster owners could charge using a standard electric outlet.

Eberhard and Tarpenning resign from Tesla:

Eberhard resigned from his role as CEO and president of Tesla in 2007 and by 2008 Eberhard was no longer a part of Tesla’s leadership team, despite still owning shares in Tesla. Following Eberhard’s shock resignation, his co-founder Tarpenning also decided to leave Tesla in 2008. After which point Tesla’s primary stakeholder, Elon Musk, took over as the CEO of Tesla.

The Tesla Powerwall:

While Tesla is best known for their electric cars, Tesla also produces a product called the Powerwall. Tesla’s Powerwall is an energy storage product, which individuals can use to store excess solar energy from their home’s solar panels. Which can then be used to charge a Tesla vehicle or to power a smart home.

So if you’ve always been fascinated by Tesla’s quick rise to success and the use of solar panels in modern day life, hopefully you found the history of solar energy and the history of Tesla interesting. Especially if your home boasts its very own solar panels or you own a Tesla Powerwall or car. Visit https://sunly.ca/ today to learn more about having your own solar panels installed!
